Silver Cleaning Recipe
Total Time: 5 mins
Preparation Time: 5 mins
Ingredients
- 2 sheets aluminum foil
- enough boiling water, to cover silver pieces
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
Recipe
- 1 put drain stopper in the sink and add the foil, one piece lengthwise and one across.
- 2 pour in boiling water.
- 3 add the baking soda and swish it around.
- 4 place the silver pieces in the solution, making sure they touch the foil, and let stand for several minutes.
- 5 carefully watch as the tarnish moves from the silverware to the foil.
- 6 remove the pieces, rinse well, and dry with a soft cloth.
- 7 only use this method occasionally, especially if you have silverplate.
- 8 this can only be done in your sink--enamel or porcelin only!
- 9 do not use in a stainless steel sink.
- 10 this recipe should not be used on antique or priceless pieces and should be used only occasionally.
- 11 keep in mind that this removes the oxide finish that adds subtle shadows, which create depth and dimension to detailed silver patterns.
