Steel-cut Oat Porridge

Total Time: 25 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 3
  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses (if you're not used to blackstrap molasses, use less the first time)
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup crushed pineapple with juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Recipe

  • 1 in a saucepan, combine oats, water, molasses and brown sugar.
  • 2 bring to a boil.
  • 3 stir in pineapple and cinnamon.
  • 4 if desired, you could add some raisins, currants or other dried fruit.
  • 5 reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally and adding additional water if necessary to prevent sticking.
  • 6 cook until water is absorbed and oats are cooked.
