Scots Dressing

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 cups oatmeal
  • stock, from turkey giblets (or veg "chicken" stock for a vegetarian version)
  • salt and pepper

Recipe

  • 1 melt butter in large skillet.
  • 2 soften onions in butter (do not brown).
  • 3 add oatmeal and mix well.
  • 4 season to taste.
  • 5 use at this point to stuff turkey or chicken.
  • 6 if making in a casserole, add the stock.
  • 7 not too much, you want it to still be fairly dry.
  • 8 bake at 350 degrees f for about 45 minutes.
